Contemporary Landscape Artist
Why landscape?
I am drawn to painting landscapes as they move with the weather and change with the light. Every sky is different, and I enjoy capturing the mood and depth of the subject.
In the words of English-born Canadian painter and printmaker Walter J. Phillips:
“A landscape painting is essentially emotional in origin. It exists as a record of an effect in nature whose splendour has moved a human heart, and according as it is well or ill done it moves the hearts of others.”
Exhibitions
I enjoy exhibiting my work to connect with the community and engage with the audience. I value feedback from art enthusiasts to grow and refine my artistic skills and listen to observations and interpretations.
Coastal Inspiration
I have been fortunate to live in the Illawarra area of the NSW South Coast for over 30 years, and I have depicted the region in many of my landscapes.
I often start my work as plein-air painting and refine and finalise the landscape in my studio. I use a variety of mediums, including water-based acrylics, but mainly focus on oil paints. I use various tools, including palette knives and brushes of varying sizes,
Architectural Background
I am an Associate and the Design Manager of a small architectural firm focusing primarily on commercial developments. Early in my career, I learnt to draw detailed perspectives, and these skills have expanded and provided a strong foundation for my art practice.
